So, it's just 11 days to go until Christmas which means it's the time of year where we, as human beings, seem to lose all control of our sense of reason and go slightly crazy! Yes, the silly season is in full swing and don't we just know it!
Here at Sportpool, we share our building with a number of other businesses, however, being a relatively new organisation, we aren't so familiar with all of the other people who beaver away, hard at work each day, in other rooms. Cue the Christmas Party!!
When we seen that the building was organising a communal Christmas party in one of the large conference rooms, to say we were sceptical about the occasion would be an understatement. It was billed as a free afternoon of food and drink with the added bonus of a disco and, wait for it, karaoke! So it was with much trepidation that we made our way to the first floor, where we could hear the very faint sound of Shakin' Stevens' 'classic' Christmas hit, Merry Christmas Everyone. It was at this point we prayed that the alcohol was plentiful and very, very strong!!
In actuality, the afternoon was painless, and, dare I say, quite enjoyable!! Highlights included the mini burgers and Christmas cake from the heavily Iceland Party Food dependant buffet, the potent alcoholic punch served by our attentive hostesses, and, how could we forget, the cleaners doing karaoke!!!
Oh yes, it sure was an entertaining few hours, in fact I don't think even the Only Fools and Horses Christmas special of 1996 could have provided more laugh out loud moments than our delightful goddesses of domesticity murdering Just Like a Pill by Pink. Well, I think that's what it was supposed to be anyway! The jury may still be out on that one!!
I'm sure the sight of crushed sausage rolls, empty crackers and 500 party streamers quickly sobered them back up upon their return to work on Saturday!
Of course, we all love this time of year as it provides magical moments like this that can raise a smile on even the Scrooges of this world. But, I'm sure any smile could be seriously amplified on the face of anyone who wins £10,000....do you see what I've done there!! Yes, that's right it's time for a shameless plug for this weeks' SportSIX competition, which will shortly be available for you to enter.
