Hello again! So, we've survived the most miserable month of them all.....just! February is now upon us and with is comes a whole bundle of special treats from your friends at Sportpool. Yes, that's right, we have been working hard on bringing you some big changes to the site and today we announce a brand new game for you to get your teeth stuck into.
Powered by our partners at 11kicks, we are proud to welcome an exciting Fantasy Football style game to the Sportpool website. I'm sure many of you have played similar variants of the game before whether it be online, with a newspaper or just between you and your mates, but this time you can play for serious money, every week, and even play among your friends in your own private league.
For those that are new to the world of Fantasy Football, basically you can create your ultimate team of 11 players that will go head to head with those of everybody else playing against you in your league. Points are allocated for such things as goals, assists, clean sheets and playing more than 60 minutes. Points can also be deducted for bookings and own goals etc. The person whose team comes out on top after the full program of matches have taken place, takes away the cash. There are also prizes for coming second or third, depending on the number of people taking part.
Whilst games are taking place, results are updated in real time and you can see just how everybody else is getting on too. There is also a great chat function too making the game completely interactive!

New year.....Win Pounds DON'T Lose pounds!!!
Is it just me or is your entire minifeed on Facebook taken up by people who seemingly munched their way through a years' supply of chocolate over Christmas and are now proclaiming that it will be another 12 months before a single morsel of the brown stuff will be consumed again? Yes, the festive period is now over and now everyone is trying to drop a dress size, in a desperate search for that bikini body, which, if they're honest, probably didn't exist prior to Christmas anyway!!
I guess we are all guilty of over-eating at Christmas time. It's difficult to avoid this when everyone suddenly thinks they are Britain's Best Baker and brings out the Jamie Oliver cookbook they received in their stockings the year before! How many of you endured, erm, I mean enjoyed, quiches, cookies and pies lovingly constructed by mothers, grandparents, aunts and uncles who under normal circumstances would be more than capable of putting together an adequate meal but because it's Christmas feel it necessary to demonstrate their distinctly average cookery skills with a selection of pastries and cakes?! So is it any wonder that in the absence of proper meals during the party season that we all pile on the pounds?!
The true winner of the great festive bake off though is, of course, Davina McCall, who will probably be booking her luxury holiday to Barbados as we speak with the royalties from her perennial workout DVD that will undoubtedly be rammed down our throats for the next three weeks! God love you Davina, I'm not sure where the nation would be without your latest fitness steps!
For those of you more concerned with winning pounds as opposed to losing them, then, of course, SportSIX must surely be your saviour! This, and every weekend, we give you the perfect excuse to slouch in front of several hours of sporting action and pray that your selections come good as the results flood in! Somebody WILL win £10,000 at some point so make sure you get involved as it genuinely could very well be you! Just imagine how many Davina DVDs you could buy with that!!!

The Silly Season is well and truly here!!
Greetings to one and all!
So, it's just 11 days to go until Christmas which means it's the time of year where we, as human beings, seem to lose all control of our sense of reason and go slightly crazy! Yes, the silly season is in full swing and don't we just know it!
Here at Sportpool, we share our building with a number of other businesses, however, being a relatively new organisation, we aren't so familiar with all of the other people who beaver away, hard at work each day, in other rooms. Cue the Christmas Party!!
When we seen that the building was organising a communal Christmas party in one of the large conference rooms, to say we were sceptical about the occasion would be an understatement. It was billed as a free afternoon of food and drink with the added bonus of a disco and, wait for it, karaoke! So it was with much trepidation that we made our way to the first floor, where we could hear the very faint sound of Shakin' Stevens' 'classic' Christmas hit, Merry Christmas Everyone. It was at this point we prayed that the alcohol was plentiful and very, very strong!!
In actuality, the afternoon was painless, and, dare I say, quite enjoyable!! Highlights included the mini burgers and Christmas cake from the heavily Iceland Party Food dependant buffet, the potent alcoholic punch served by our attentive hostesses, and, how could we forget, the cleaners doing karaoke!!!
Oh yes, it sure was an entertaining few hours, in fact I don't think even the Only Fools and Horses Christmas special of 1996 could have provided more laugh out loud moments than our delightful goddesses of domesticity murdering Just Like a Pill by Pink. Well, I think that's what it was supposed to be anyway! The jury may still be out on that one!!
I'm sure the sight of crushed sausage rolls, empty crackers and 500 party streamers quickly sobered them back up upon their return to work on Saturday!
Of course, we all love this time of year as it provides magical moments like this that can raise a smile on even the Scrooges of this world. But, I'm sure any smile could be seriously amplified on the face of anyone who wins £10,000....do you see what I've done there!! Yes, that's right it's time for a shameless plug for this weeks' SportSIX competition, which will shortly be available for you to enter. It genuinely does provide you with a very real opportunity of pocketing some Christmas cash for you to spend however you want!

Snow-vember is over and we have a winner!!
Hello from a very wintry Sportpool HQ! I’m sure it’s very similar wherever you are reading this from, but as I gaze outside all i can see is what can only be described as a full on blizzard!! It looks quite picturesque, but I’m sure i won’t have any positive adjectives for it come 5pm when I have to brave the elements and get home!
Anyway, enough about the weather and on to some more exciting news! This weekend was the culmination of our November monthly league and what an exciting tussle it turned out to be! Unlike in previous months, the prize never looked to be a lock for any one player, which meant that there were several twitchy players on Sunday afternoon praying that their selections brought home the bacon. Of course, the bacon in question was a rather mouth-watering 4 tickets to catch the mighty Kings of Leon playing a huge gig at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light next June.
After every ball had been kicked, every ace had been served and every try had been scored, the overall winner was Martyn, and we would like to say a very big well done to him from us all here at Sportpool. Commiserations are also in order for the large number of people who narrowly missed out on the prize, it was a gallant effort by all but unfortunately there can only be one winner!
For those that did miss out, never fear as we have been desperately searching for another top prize to get you all geared up for the start of the December league this weekend! We think we have come up with a bit of a belter this month! On offer we have:

Sportpool - Our First Official Blog!
Hello and welcome to the very first Sportpool Blog!
We are very excited to be entering the weird and wonderful world of the blog, and we hope we can keep you entertained as well as keeping you up to date with all that goes on here at Sportpool.
For those of you that are new to Sportpool, let me give you a brief outline as to who we are. Sportpool run a weekly, online, sports predictions competition over at our website www.sportpool.co.uk. Each week there is a whopping £10,000 jackpot up for grabs as well as lots of other cash prizes! Our flagship game is SportSIX. Basically, we ask 6 questions that relate to 6 different sporting events, taking place over the weekend. To each question there are 6 possible answers, one of which will always be correct, as all eventualities are considered. If you manage to correctly predict 6 outcomes then you will win our jackpot! It's that simple!
PLUS, we have an unrivalled commitment to good causes. Every time you play our games, you are helping a charitable organisation, thanks to our unique donation system.
